Well.. I am words' worth....

As the title of the post might have suggested, this post is dedicated to the increasingly profound and mind-boggling contortions that modern day tamil poetry is going through.. I just happened to listen to the latest addition to the list of the definitely-future-hall-of-fame works, set to tune by who-else-but-harris-jayaraj. And this post was an automatic aftermath.
Gettin straight to the point, let me cut and paste an excerpt from the piece of TAMIL lyric for a TAMIL film called Thotti jayaa... (a completely tamil title, in an industry where naming a film in tamil is snowballing into quite an issue). But here is how the lyric goes.

ON first listening,

Eeee.. So... ai... ye...ee... (an initial appetiser)
(Chorus)

Zolime DheFo...
Modhilo Seelo...
Yamadhanjaago...
Ivandhaano..

(repeat)
Zemeno seebo...
Modhilai Zaano...
Nethi adi dhaano
jeya.. yeah hero...

hee..Zolime Dhefo..
Huh..Modhilo Seelo..
Hee.. Yamadhanjaago..
Huh.. Ivandhaano..

ha...

Eee...yeah...zai..eeyaahee....

--End of Song--

And as if that were not enough, here comes Blaaze (the popularly known name of the much more tamil name Rajesh Raman), with his rapping, that is gonna blow my top sooner than later, under the blissful impression that a random string of syllables assembled and screamed with oohs and aahs smattered to fill up breath pauses make up a rap.. CRAP!!

The latest offering from SJ suryah's stables (formerly known as BF, name now changed to an innocent A..Aaa...), has Rahman doing the music... And there is this song that goes like marangothiye, which means a woodpecker. Dont see how that is romantic and danceable.
But to top it off, Blaaze starts it off with something AS RIDICULOUS AS

Wud I Wud I Wud I Wud I Wud I Wud I Wud I be a Wudpecker!!! (sung 4 times, in a metronomic monodrone, that kills the song, day zero, even before the pitch report. I cant but laugh out loud..)
Wud I Wud I woodpecker????
Who the hell writes these lyrics?? Woodpecker? Motherf-? Let me stick to my limits..
What crap!
Someone murder the lyricists. Someone speak some sense into these idiots please.
Tamil music needs some good lyricists..

Ommahaseeyaa vaahiyaalaa...
Shamse mama mamse...
Yela yelaa yelaa olaa olaa olaa..
Mumbasseiyo!! doyourpeeyo!!
Alamba polaama omayo seele seele...

Nonsense... and there is an idiot called ilayaraja who sits and meticulously transforms the thiruvasagam (a celebrated tamil work of literature) into a symphony.. Who cares? Silly old man... Not many of his kind around..

The future is dark...
Paadal pala ketkumbodhum sila neram ennam thadumaarumo....

My mom gets attacks when she hears the lyrics these days. Every time she hears a new song, it's followed by the comment "What is the world coming to!" And then she starts to sing an older song to show me and my sis how much more meaning old songs had. Not just how much more, in fact, they HAD meaning.

Btw, nice to see you back in form. This one was a good laugh! :)

Hi all, this is my therapy to all u hurt by such absolutely crappy stuff...Ensoy...

What degradation from the days of ... thissssss --------

Chitra (singer) -
yaarukku yaar uravu yaar arivaaro,
un peyarai en peyarai iyarkaiyum ezuthiyatho.

SPB -
poomagal moochu vitaal poo malaraatho,
poovazhagin vaarthaigale poojaikku vedhangalo.

Back to Chitra -
kalloori vaazhkailyil kaadhal yen vandhadhu,

SPB -
aagaayam engilum neelam yaar thanthathu...iyalbaanadhu...

wow! what lyrics and set to such lilting music from Chandrabose...

Such "pure" and beautiful romance...

wonderfully shot/directed and then enacted by Karthik and Revathy is a different story...snow-white dresses - both - on the train track...

THE song - Take a bow.

Super feel...

No second opinions though that the 2 lyrical highlights of the last 10 years are :-

Nee naan sivam.
vaazhve Thavam

AND

ayal naadundhan veedalla vidudhiyadaa thamizhaa...

True. But I guess the tastes of people have also changed... slowly moving towards western...

And about the idiot you were talking about, I guess his priorities have gone different. Thiruvasagam rocks :) Like MSV did in 'mellath thiRandhadhu kadhavu' may be Raja will also come back sometime... Lets wait with hope :)

just carrying on from ARR + hindi..."Rising" s music is FANTASTIC...superrb, it will definitely better Lagaan...no doubts about that...

U can rest assured about the feedback as I am certainly not the "hard-core" type fans of ARR...

But i mus say - he s done superb...liked them a lot - "sema feel" about them...

can't discuss in detail though, as I m not aware of the singers family in the North...jus know that Aamir has lent his voice too!! (Aamir fans - u ll deftly like it...suuuure)...

as usual thalais - Udit Narayan and Srini...Sab's "driver-friend" Chinmayee has sung too.

On the whole, peerless ARR does it again (in Hindi)...

how much I wish he does those Roja, Gentleman, Bombay types in tamil - heard he s given a no. of melodies for a forthcoming tamil movie - there s a likeability about the director of that movie - I can't recollect his name though - a good team that, for sure.

ARR - pozachu po (ANbe Sivam style ;) )
