Seeing Music...

Me and my sis were just doing random timepass, just days ahead of my marriage, when we hit upon this seemingly arbit game...

If you close your eyes and listen to these Raagas, what color do you see for each?
(please try and be as specific as you can imagine!)

To help, the name of a film song in that raagaa is included with each raga ;)

1. PantuvaraaLi (Hai Raama yeh kya hua)
2. Madhuvanthi (kanda naaL mudhalaai)
3. Valaji (Koovi azhaithaal)
4. KalyaaNavasantham (ninnaiye rathiyendru)
5. Desh (vande maataram)
6. Sindhu bhairavi (oru naaLum unai maravaadha)
7. Bhairavi (flute bit in Sandhana thendralai)
8. Vaasanthi (adho mega oorvalam)
9. NaLinakaanthi (endhan nenjil)
10. Malaya maarutham (Ragasiyamaai)

Please reply with the colors that you saw!
My sis and i had some unbelievable 'matches' when we played!

1. PantuvaraaLi - Grey blue (dark) and slightly green mix too
2. Madhuvanthi - Orange (the duller shade)
3. Valaji - Green (Mango leaf)
4. KalyaaNavasantham - Red (blood)
5. Desh - lemon yellow
6. Sindhu bhairavi - Dull yellow
7. Bhairavi - Brown (slightly greenish)
8. Vaasanthi - Medium gray
9. NaLinakaanthi - Very dark green (85% black - africa rainforest color)
10. Malaya maarutham - Skin color of this blog page, similar shade. Mustardnu sollalaam

And btw, Want to know, if I can take credit for this concept. I had been thinking it was something I had invented and believed the author might have come to know of it through word of mouth. But like minds do exist and same thoughts do originate multiple times at multiple locations, jus like how similar species of humans developed on the planet at different places. After all everything is maya. Ellaam siva mayam.

Here are the colours I seem to have got -- but (associating an) emotion seems more natural and repeatable to me than (associating a) colour. In other words, the colours did not appear instinctively to me always; For some ragas I only got an emotion and needed to ask myself, "what colour now for this emotion?"

pantuvarali: dark gold
madhuvanthi : dark blue
valaji: light cool blue
nalinakanthi: white (maybe influenced by colours in than kamal's song??)
malamaarutham: green

It will also be interesting, of course, to describe a detailed emotion/situation for each raga.

2. Madhuvanthi (kanda naaL mudhalaai) - Yellow ochre

5. Desh (vande maataram)- I am sorry, I can only see the Indian flag fluttering :D
6. Sindhu bhairavi (oru naaLum unai maravaadha) - Pale yellow
7. Bhairavi (flute bit in Sandhana thendralai)- Dark green
8. Vaasanthi (adho mega oorvalam)- Red
9. NaLinakaanthi (endhan nenjil) - Ocean green

wow.. Unique post.enaku, "Thandral vandhu theendum bodhu enna vannamo manasula " paatu nyabagam vardhu.. i dedicate tat song to this post of urs..
As a singer n a music lover, am excited abt it.. let me start
Bantuvaralai - black
Madhuvanthi - pink&blue
Valachi - white
kalyaanavasantham - none
Desh - Indian flag (not becoz u have mentioned vande mataram, i tried imagining other songs in desh too..indian flag flashed now n thn..)
Sindhu bhairavi - i thought ot venakatachalanilayam.. green
Bhairavi - none..
Vaasanthi - white
Nalinakanthi - pink
Malaya marutham - blue

am not very successful in this.. more than colours i get the singers faces, when i think of bhairavi, my varnam book,,. but generally romantic/soothing ragas brings pink, blue clours.. peaceful ragas brings white colour to the mind.. bantuvarali konjam haunting.. so black.. can u explain how urs n ur sisters matched bcoz u got to think of same incidents/sumthin since u were brought up together...?

Glad at all the responses :) :)
No right or wrong answers here, just whatever comes to mind!

I have no clue how my sister and i got some matching colors, but i just saw colors (in some case, a golden jug, or a wet green leaf, or just blue shining sky etc.)

Some of the colors that matched were as specific as "Dark Orange" etc. :))

Though this is an old post, it is one of the most interesting one that I have come across.. I feel, A RAGA perception depends on the listener,, each raga evokes a particular emotion in the listener, depending on the perception and so the color varies accordingly. You probably are very well connected to your sister, your vibrations might be the same, so also might be the colors.
